I’ve been feeling under the weather,
It is winter and bones can get cold…
Especially when you reach my age
And your two-legs keeps saying “You’re old.”
*
Now, I know that in ‘dog years’ I’m eldest,
Though the theory has been disproved
That I’ll age seven years in your twelvemonth
So the argument leaves me unmoved.
*
Because, me, I’m a puppy when playing…
I can chase, fetch and squeak things all day
Where she’ll only survive for an hour
Before she tries running away.
*
I can go chase a cat in the garden,
Then I’ll see off the birds, it’s no chore
AndΒ if cows are becoming a problem,
I can see off the whole herd mid-snore.
*
But my two legs appears to be fragile,
There are some who would treat her like glass…
Meanwhile, I think that she would do better,
If she moved more and got off her….chair…
*
“But it’s cold, girlie whirl,” she keeps saying,
“It is winter and bones can just freeze…
And if you want more movement from my end
Could we just shut the garden door please?”
*
But I like having doors that stand open,
So that I can go both ways at will
And if anything threatens my two-legs
I can simply move in for the ‘kill’.
*
I don’t think she has ever admitted
Just what sacrifices I have made?
“Don’t you think, little small dog, that maybe
In love, cheese and chicken, you’re paid?”
*
She may have a point ’cause she spoils me,
There’s always a treat I can chew,
And when I’m feeling under the weather
It’s her I will cuddle up to.
*
Please get better dear friend, love Ruby πππ

Well, Ani, if anybody understands feeling poorly, it’s your faithful two-legs. I recommend maximum cuddle time while you cut back on the cow chasing. Hope you are all better soon!

Cow chasing is therapeutic, I believe, though they are not playing out at he moment. Cuddles are always good though.

Dear Ani,
Peri says she hopes you’re feeling better soon. She had a difficult day last week which she INSISTS had absolutely nothing to do with the particularly dodgy bit she dug up and ate on our walk. That is all. She recommends you take her usual cure, which is to eat some of that long grass at the bottom of the garden and then sick up under the dining room table. Good luck with that.

Ah… Peri is wise… full of both good advice and practial experience. π
I just sat on the two legs all night and kept her sroking. I seem to feel a bit better this morning, but she’s looking a shade or two greyer… π xx

Ani my love, I get the age thing, and much as I would love to chase cows, I have problems keeping the crows off the birdseed which is my job each day. Wishing you and your two legs more cuddles and cheese. Loved your poem. β₯β₯

Something to cheer your Monday morning.. a poem from the small dog who shares her thoughts on life in her usual entertaining way, assisted as always by her two legs… if you don’t follow Ani then you will be delighted by her poetry which comes right from the heart.. and love of cheese.

Hello Ani, nice to meet you again. Dont worry, you are not old. You are wise, and there will be soon another summer, for your pleasure. Than you can chase the pigeons, and giving your tennis balls freedom again. Best wishes, Michael

Hi, Ani. Sorry you’re under the weather. Hurry up and get well again. She needs you to protect her from cows, cats and birds.
Until then, give and receive all the cuddles you can.

Hi Ani. Roscoe the guinea pig here. I know what you mean. I’m feeling old in my bones at the moment, and spend most of my time lying on the nice thick hay Mam’s given us. Or in my snugglesac (which is in the wash at the moment). Keep moving on, dog, spring’s not far away and then we can chase rabbits or eat grass, whatever you fancy.
Love and hugs to your Mam, too. xxx

Hi Ani, Garfield here. This simply won’t due. It’s January , though, the most miserable time of the year. Even I hate this month and spend a lot of time sleeping in the round thing on my cat tree. Hope you are feeling better soon and I’m sending you cuddles, although you might not like cuddles from a cat.

Dear Ani – Sorry to hear you are under the weather – I, too, prefer laying around when my bones hurt and frisking around wondering why my two-leggeds is hurting when I’m not! It’s been so rare this past year when she feels good enough to dance and play with me when I FEEL good enough to dance and play, too. So often when she feels good enough to dance, she figures she ought to work to ensure the stocks are in for my treats and food – so I try to remember that – – My doggie door that lets me go out, come in any time of the day or night, broke last spring – replacement parts not available – but she worked to pay higher heating bill with a ‘rigged’ partial solution until she could buy and fashion a better home made replacement – but – still – – I guess, overall – I’m worried about her – she doesn’t laugh as much and she doesn’t always dance under the moon or thunderstorm as much, anymore – – on the other hand – she never steps on me or rolls the chair over me when she is ‘up to bustling’ and I’m laying around taking it easy – and at the end of the day – no matter what kind of day she or I have had, she says, “ah, Oakley girl – we are growing old together – I love you” – pish-posh! I’m old enough in human years to be her grandmother – – she seriously just loses track of time….often…..and is too young to be complaining about her joints – – – LOL

I know, Oakley,,, they are as bad as each other really, mere pups against our dog years… but we love them for their daftness and silly ideas.

Ani – I love her because she loves me in my foibles, but, yes, she is just a puppy and all I can say, is, perhaps they will grow up and be adulting it before me and thee are gone? I sometimes lose hope as we four-leggeds have spent millenia trying to ‘educate’ the two-leggeds, but, on the other hand, they are rather cute when they play like puppies completely unaware we hold the line for them – – Sigh – at least – overall – perhaps? a life of meaning/well spent – even when we haven’t yet fully learned how to quickly communicate our ‘eye roll/seriously?” communication in a way they ‘get’ – – β€ from our daft household to yours, Ani!

Actually, Oakley, I think like them better when they forget to try the whole adulting thing…they are freer as pups and get down off their dignity to a bit of dognity π

Ani? I personally rather like it when she gets all wound up over the ‘adulting world’ because no matter what hurts, she cranks the music and if neither of us feel like dancing, we just play on the floor or she lays on the floor next to me and says, “i love you, I’m tired of adulting, I’m feeling like humans suck, but you are GREAT!” – – LOL

I know those moments too… we need to stick around for them , Oakley π

My two legged is reading my ‘communications’ and all she said was, “Thank GOD you stick by me in those moments!! Otherwise? I would have given up a long, long time ago – – Thank you for ‘loving me’ in person/daily life, in a 1,000 different ways, every damn day!”
