She’s got a really rotten cold
And isn’t feeling well,
She’s curled up on the sofa
And she looks as rough as hell.
The good thing is it’s ‘feed a cold’
As far as I can tell,
Which means, of course, she really must
Keep feeding me as well
And all the stuff that’s in the fridge…
Leftover new year’s fare…
The pies and pastries, nicely cooked
And all designed to share,
I’m having to dispose of
Because no-one else is there…
And she can’t seem to manage much
‘Cause sometimes, life’s unfair…
She says if I keep eating
Then I’ll only end up fat.
I say that she’s no room to talk
Or criticise on that
‘Cause she’s a bit balloonified…
She says I’m full of chat!
But if she wanted silence
Then she should have had a cat.
Ani what can you do to help. Can you manage to get your poorly two legs a glass of hot lemon, honey and whiskey and if she has any in the cupboard a teaspoon of gliseryne.? Love Ruby 💜💜

A CAT?? No, no, no…. Cats don’t cuddle very well and they are very picky eaters. Who would warm her feet or help her eat the leftovers? Eventually, she’ll figure out how much you’re HELPING! You may have to do some extra running in the spring to get rid of the extra weight, but you can worry about that later. Hope you and your human are enjoying the new year!

She promises no cats although I’m sure I could train a kitten.

YOUR cat may be a picky eater, but I’ve had cats who would and did eat pretty much anything. And anything was much worse than anyone might imagine.

Dear Ani,
It’s your duty to groom your sick person, making very sure all the bits she drops about herself are removed, and especially the ones that might fall on sofa or floor. Also, you can’t risk her eating something that might have gone bad from sitting around, so it’s your responsibility to dispose of that as well. She should thank you for your diligence, but in my experience, it’s best to take care of these details whilst she’s asleep. It’s a tough job, but some dog’s gotta do it. I hope your person is feeling better soon.
–your friend,
Peri 🐾 😘

Hey Peri, or should I say ciao…
I do my best to make sure there is nothing potentially danerous lurking. If she would just leave the fridhe open more often, I could check everything in there…you know, for ‘use by’ dates. She’s not eating uch apart from the big stew she made,so I’ sure tehre must be stuff in there that needs disposing of 😉 xx

No… and are we appreciated? Do they buy us a nice T Bone Steak… the doggy equivalent of ‘thank you’ flowers? (Well, okay, she does do pretty well on the treats front…)

Dear Ani, I am lucky. Barb is a complete treat marshmallow who believes in rewarding me for breathing, and for not eating annoying little dachshunds even when they are at their most revoltingly cute levels of dachshundsness. And the Hub is an economist, which means he totally gets that I can’t be expected to work without pay. The treat jar is my bitch. (NOT an insult in our company.)

Absolutely not an insult…I keep telling her that…
I have the same sort of arrangement with her friend, my ball guy, when he’s here. She was a bit put out to discover I now have the have treats in my breakfast… like the Flakes they have in their ice cream cones… before I’ll consider eating it. 😀

Aah, it seems that every negative has a silver lining for /someone/. Now if only you could make Her eat as well. Getting sick is a bad way of going on a diet! Time enough for that when the sun comes out and you can go for long walks again. Chin up, little girl and enjoy your windfall while you may. 🙂

Oh no, I put the sausage rolls there… tucked neatly between the seams 😉 And I don’t think she’llbe doing long walks any more 😦 xx

lol – very clever, Ani, just don’t sit on them by mistake. Flaky pastry can make such a mess, and it would be a shame to waste it, right? As for walks, maybe you can talk her into taking short little walks…for the vitamin D?
