“Help! Ambulance!”
Not a good way to start your week, but last Monday, it was panic stations. My two legs went wonky and, stood all hairless in the tub, she couldn’t breathe. The next few minutes, I was going spare, I can tell you… with her gasping, the ball guy phoning, and me trying to be there for both of them and stay out of the way at the same time.
A squealy thing on wheels arrived and I sat with her while they did stuff to her. I don’t mind admitting, I was frightened and shaking a lot, but then they bundled her onto a bed thing and took her away.
I didn’t see her again for a week. I wasn’t sure I would ever see her again.
The ball guy and my boys were all really worried. There was no sign of her at all but they told me it would be okay… I didn’t really believe them. The ball guy took some of her clothes things in a bag… so I put her a chicken treat in too, just from me. When he came back, he still had the treat, but it smelled like her… so I felt a bit better, Then, he let me speak to her on the phone a few nights later. And one of my boys came round too. Then some new people.. even though she still wasn’t home. It was all a bit weird and worrying.
Even put me off my food.
Anyway, yesterday, people came with machines and everyone seemed to be getting real excited…and my boy brought her home! I was beginning to think I’d never see her again!
She smells funny… not just funny clean, but funny weird. She has obviously been at the vets a long, long time… but she came in and cuddled me as soon as I could stop wiggling.
She has a short leash attached… like a head halter so she can’t pull or escape or go very far. And it is held by a noisy thing that doesn’t move, so she is a bit stuck. Which is fine by me, as I’m barely taking my eyes off her in case she goes missing again.
I’m just hoping they don’t have to call the squealy thing again now. She still doesn’t seem right, but I am watching her like a hawk and pretty much glued to her feet. It is really hard to guard them when you don’t know what is going in or where.
So it has been a hard week…and a worrying one… but at least she is home where I know I can keep her safe. I hope.
Maybe I should sleep in her bed to make sure?
Much love, Ani xxx

Nobody likes going to the Vet, Ani. Your poor two-leg missed you more than you know. Maybe if you’re lucky, you can both have some chicken. Stay close and keep her company. At least she won’t be coming after you with the hoover anytime soon!

Hi Ani, Ruby here, I really sympathise with you it’s so worrying when they get ill. It so scary. Those squeaky things and the people who come in them are very strange but the mean well and smell safe. Just make sure you eat and rest and use your strength to guard your two legs, that’s our job. 💜💜💜 Love Ruby

That kind of thing kept happening with mine the year before last. Took me ages to get her smelling right each time she came home. She didn’t have one of those funny machines with a leash though. Maybe yours having that means she’ll stay put properly? At least the noise of that thing has to make keeping track of where she is easier. Maybe you should sleep in her bed though… Just to be sure. Don’t want her disappearing in one of those squeally things on wheels again. Lots of licks, Lilie

I am sure Ani has been most worried, Sue. Did the ball man call an ambulance for you? Quite scary to live alone if something like that happens. Oh dear, now I’m worried about my aunt. I hope you are feeling much better and the machine [is it a drip?] will be removed soon.

Ani is still worried. Thank goodness Stuart was here… I could not have called for help and would not have lasted long without it.

I hope you have someone who will be able to stay with you for a while, Sue. It is a terrible shock when something like this happens, especially when it is out of the blue. I have recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure which was a big shock to me as I have never had a problem before. The doctor says it is caused by chronic stress and exhaustion during lock down. I am very glad luck smiled on you. Hugs

Dear Ani –
While I, too, worry about your two-leggeds after reading your report, I will say this – no matter what happens, no matter how it all turns out, no matter how funny the two-leggeds smell or strangers come into the house for them, well, remember always, that in their heart of hearts, we make them feel better by sleeping with them, or being ourselves, and they feel better knowing we stand guard duty and are ‘right underfoot’ should they stir from their bed – I, myself, chose to stand guard duty next to my two-leggeds grown pup, right next to his bed, and sometimes, he would close his door and I got stuck in the room for hours while his mama chose not to ‘open the door’ for fear of waking him up when he finally got comfortable enough to sleep – yes, yes, she was all apologetic, but she too thought not as ill or run down as her pup, has been not quite right from pure frustration, pushing it hard etc., and once she recovered enough to return to ‘on the floor’ stretches and exercise operations at o’dark thirty in the morning, I finally, was able to make her laugh, in pure joy, and fearlessness, by basically licking her to death and trying to get her to play ‘chase’ when her pup was in need of rest – and quiet – and no loud thumping of floorboads going on – – Sigh – I know not how it will turn out in the end for our two-leggeds and home pack, overall, but, if nothing else – I know, because she laughed, because they both take care to not step on me when I’m standing guard right next to the bed, when they check to see why I’m barking on perimeter guard duty instead of yelling at me to ‘shut up’ like some of their neighbors do – well – in their little ways, they let me know what a comfort I am to them – no matter how it all plays out – and for me, I guess, for today, that’s enough? Hang in there Ani and all loves, hugs and blessings wished for you, your pack, your den and your two-legged!

We did that shtick here in our pack home recently too – one two legged tried to keep teak kettle, essential oil rubs and all going and on duty to ‘be right ready when sleep interrupted’ but in the end – she fell too, so it was up to me to stand watch and wake up the other two legged to turn the kettle on, mix up more salve and/or refill the vaporizer if she didn’t wake up on her own – Oakely –
